Big news for New Kent: Amazon is coming to Exit 211. 🏗️

The county announced this week that Amazon is building a 1-million-plus square-foot distribution center on the forested 170-acre site at City Center Court, right next to the AutoZone facility in the New Kent City Center park. Construction is slated to start this month, with completion tentatively in late 2027.

It joins a wave of development at that I-64 interchange. Target's 1.4M sq ft facility, AutoZone, and the long-awaited Buc-ee's 🙄 are all part of the same corridor build-out, plus a $20M state investment to improve the Exit 211 interchange itself.

As someone who's called New Kent home for over a decade, I'm genuinely curious where everyone lands on this one. There's a lot to weigh: jobs, investment, and a stronger tax base for the county on one side, and traffic at 211, the loss of forested land, and the small-town feel a lot of us moved here for on the other.

So I want to hear from you:

👉 Are you excited about the growth and the jobs, or worried about what it does to New Kent's character?

👉 If you commute through 211, how are you feeling about more trucks and traffic?

👉 Big picture: is this the kind of development you want to see here, or has it gone far enough?
