Raleigh Newcomers CLub is a great place to get connected with new people who have moved here. the First Friday of every month they host a coffee - open to the public , with excellent speakers. They recently had City of Raleigh Recycle some speak and I wanted to pass this into people. Also CHECK OUT raleighnewcomersclub FB and www.newcomersraleigh.org Next coffee is 6/5/26!

Here are the highlights:
• “Raleigh Reuse” is an app that lets you search for any material to find where to recycle it.
In Wake Forest, the app is “Waste Wizard.”
• Forget the triangular chasing arrows symbol on plastics. Those are for producers, not
consumers. Just because you see the symbol doesn’t guarantee it’s recyclable near you.
• Don’t trash batteries. Any retailer that sells batteries is legally required to accept used
ones. Batteries caused 50 small fires at one recycling center last year alone.
• 70% clean is good enough for the food jars you recycle. No need to wash or rinse.
• Plastic bags aren't recyclable because they get caught in the sorting machinery.
• If a lid is made of the same material as the jar or bottle, leave it on. If not, separate them.
Visit deq.nc.gov and type “recycling” in the search tool for more information.
