Today marks the 249th anniversary of the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge, the only Revolutionary War battle fought on Delaware soil.

As a ninth-generation member of the Cooch family, this history holds a special place in Merritt’s heart. Today, however, we want to recognize the incredible work of the Friends of Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site.

In partnership with the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, this dedicated group continues to preserve the site, support meaningful research and make the many stories connected to Cooch’s Bridge accessible to the public. Watching their hard work and progress has been truly exciting.

This Saturday, September 5, you’re invited to honor, explore and experience this important piece of Delaware history:

Battle of Cooch’s Bridge Memorial: 11 a.m.–noon

Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site Open House: noon–3 p.m.

Both events are free, and guests may attend either or both. Registration for the Open House is strongly encouraged.
