One of our favorite annual events is the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Semifinals take place today; the winner will be crowned tomorrow, winning $52.5K. Watch tonight and May 28th at 8 p.m. on ion (a free channel).

The competition dates back to 1925, when 11-year-old Frank Neuhauser spelled gladiolus—a type of flower—correctly. Since then, 111 champions have been crowned, owing to several two-way ties and an eight-way tie in 2019 (some competitions were skipped during World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic). All contestants must be younger than 15 and in eighth grade or below. Since 2003, the pronouncer has been 1980 winner Jacques Bailly, who makes eye contact with contestants and practices each word beforehand.

Quite a banner week and it's only Tuesday! After this closing yesterday at MBH Settlement Group with my clients, I went on to ratify a contract last night on another home.

My National Realty colleague and my high school senior intern learned so much yesterday at the Education Day hosted by MBH Settlement Group on the subjects of transactional red flags, contracts and some interesting AI tools for real estate.

I have had an interesting day so far! Met with my client and some contractors at the wonderful home he has under contract. Then on my way back to my home office, I got a call from my Tennessee cabin guest that his Hoyer lift had broken and he was a bit stuck. A quick call to my fabulous friends down there and he was out of his predicament in short order. A few phone calls to find him a rental replacement, and all is well again. The 2nd photo is my friend in the Smokies and a very unusual & sweet guest we had a few years ago at Above the Clouds cabin.

My Broker/husband and I have been working with a team of great volunteers for over 3 years to stop the bad idea of a full-blown casino in Fairfax County. National Realty has supported our team by allowing us office space and printing/copying. It was an honor to be recognized along with some of my colleagues last night by the Town of Vienna.
