This week we put the finishing touches on a timber harvest that we completed this winter. After harvesting the merchantable timber, we came back to do the post-harvest TSI (Timber Stand Improvement) work and cleaned the trails and stream-beds up. At 75° and sunny, it’s a great day to work in the woods!

What’s wrong with this deer? I’ve been seeing similar posts recently so it’s tough to tell if it’s simply that the Wisconsin winter takes a toll on some deer, or is it a disease that’s been magnified by the harshness of winter? For context, the deer was on a property that we manage in western Richland County where there was minimal snow fall this winter.

Once in a while you come across some crazy things in the woods! The person who hunts/hunted these stands must’ve been born without the part of the brain that makes you afraid of anything. Kinda cool!

We were working an Aspen clearcut in Central Wisconsin this week, turning an old Aspen forest back into a young one. Young Aspen forests have many ecological benefits, including excellent habitat for game species like Ruffed Grouse and Whitetail deer!

Putting the finishing touches on a land clearing project we did earlier this spring! This pine plantation will be replanted to deciduous trees once cleaned up.

Some pictures from a trail building project we did on a property that we manage.

This forest had a timber harvest that we completed this last winter and the hardwood regeneration that’s coming in is amazing! We installed some trails to improve deer travel and property access as the woods continues to get thicker and greener.

Between the projects in the woods, and the food plots that were planted, we’re very excited to see how the wildlife begins to use this property!

At the end of a tough week, when it seems like nothing has really gone right, it’s little things like these that remind us that what we do is worth it.

Today as we walked up to work on a broken machine, we found a brand-new baby deer who had made a home underneath of it. Whether our equipment is working or not it, we are creating wildlife habitat! And it’s so rewarding to be able to share these experiences with the ones who mean the most to us.

Curly Maple for sale!

We have some kiln-dried and skip-planed curly maple for sale. The “curl” is the wavy look of the board. It’s a rare trait that happens in maple sometimes and it makes very beautiful, unique furniture!

These boards are all from trees that we harvested locally in the Baraboo Bluffs.
