π Did you know you could once ORDER AN ENTIRE HOUSE from the Sears catalog?
From 1908 to 1942, Sears, Roebuck & Co. sold over 70,000 Sears Kit Homes (also called Sears Modern Homes or Sears Catalog Homes). Families picked a design from the catalog, and Sears shipped everything β pre-cut lumber, nails, paint, even the instructions β by railroad car right to their town!
These weren't cheap sheds. They were beautiful bungalows, foursquares, Colonials, and Craftsman-style homes that thousands of American families built with their own hands. Many are still standing today as cherished historic homes.
I just made a deep-dive video uncovering the fascinating history of these mail-order Sears Homes, how they worked, why they were revolutionary, and some amazing examples you can still spot today.

If you live in an older home (especially in the Midwest like Rochester, MN or nearby), you might be surprised β it could be a Sears kit home!
