Did you know the Flower City Mark, that unmistakable symbol of Rochester, turns 50 this year? And the City of Rochester is throwing it a party.

Created in 1975 by graphic designer Lee Green and adopted in 1976, Rochester’s "City Mark" is a five-petaled design symbolizing both a lilac (Flower City) and a water wheel (Flour City). Developed under the federal design initiative, the logo blended the city's industrial milling past with its horticultural identity, becoming a ubiquitous symbol of community pride.

Flower Fest will be on the Pont de Rennes Bridge in the High Falls District on June 6 from 6 to 10 pm. It celebrates the artists, makers, and neighbors who have helped shape Rochester’s identity.

There is plenty of advice out there for first-time buyers. Not nearly enough for first time sellers.

Here is what catches most people off guard:

Getting ready takes longer than you think, decluttering, repairs, cleaning, staging. It all adds up. Give yourself at least two to four weeks before listing, and more if you are still living in the home.

The first week of showings is intense. Keeping a house "show-ready" with kids, pets, and real life happening is a lot to juggle. It does get easier after the first few days.

Your agent’s pricing recommendation is not personal - it is based on data, not opinion. Overpricing to "test the market" usually ends up costing more time and money than it saves.

Counteroffers can feel personal. Someone is picking apart the house where you raised your family. That is normal. Let your agent handle the negotiation so you do not have to carry that weight alone.

Selling a home is a big deal. Having the right team behind you makes the whole process smoother.
