A Weekly Update from Sail Away Maine | September 28

Here are a few local real estate and property management developments we’re keeping an eye on this week.

Rockland has approved zoning updates that are scheduled to take effect October 14, unless suspended by referendum. The changes include rules related to lot coverage and accessory dwelling units. If you’re considering an addition or an extra living space, it’s a good idea to check what’s allowed for your particular property.

The city is also considering a new requirement for certain vacant buildings. That proposal has not taken effect. A public hearing is scheduled for October 14 at 5:30 p.m.

In the latest available Knox County figures, 146 single-family homes sold from June through August, compared with 152 during the same period last year. The median sale price was $424,550, down from $450,000. Countywide figures provide context, but the right price for a home depends on its location, condition, and comparable sales.
