Arkansas jumped 13 spots to No. 28 in CNBC's 2026 America's Top States for Business rankings and was named the Most Improved State in the country.

The report explicitly cites Northwest Arkansas and its thriving marketplace as the reason for The Natural State’s growth.

People are moving to Northwest Arkansas, drawn by corporate headquarters such as Walmart, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt, as well as lower costs, tax benefits, and quality-of-life appeal. The report states remote workers are choosing NWA as well.

The National Association of Realtors is urging Congress to double the capital gains tax exclusion for home sellers, raising the limit from $250,000 to $500,000 for single filers and from $500,000 to $1 million for married couples.

The current limits, unchanged since 1997, mean nearly 13 million homeowners would face a tax penalty if they sold today, effectively locking them in place and reducing available housing supply. NAR president Kevin Brown testified before the Senate Banking Committee that raising the limits would free up housing inventory without requiring new construction.
