"I began renting a 3-bedroom house in 2015 for $869. In 2023, the rent increased to $1,300. Keep in mind nothing about the house changed. The owner refused to paint and i couldn't use the fireplace. When I looked at the rent and the over-head I was paying, I knew it was time to buy my own house.

I didn't want just a house. I wanted land and my house to sit on the land. Due to my credit rating, I was required to put more funds down than I had.

I learned of NHG many years ago when my step-mother purchased her townhouse and I kept it filed away for when I would need it.

Yes, I definitely would advise others. If they are in a similar situation that I was in, I would tell them about the program, and how it helped me and to do their research on how the program could assist them with their home purchase.

I was elated, I dd the dance Whoopi Goldberg did in the original color purple when she saw the house her mother left her. I posted pics on FB & IG with the caption "I'm finally ADULTING"."

"My husband and I have been wanting to buy a home. After a major accident our credit hit rock bottom because we couldn’t pay our bills. We spent years trying to rebuild but we couldn’t save any money. We hated living in apartments. We had high debt and high monthly payments.

Our lender told us what we needed to do and told us about the down payment assistance program. We were so excited [by] the possibility. We wanted to have something to be able to pass down to our children. I would recommend this program to anyone in need of a little help. Talk to a lender to see if you qualify. I honestly never thought that we would. Don’t give up and do everything they tell you to do to get you to qualify. I only had to come up with the earnest money and it was a lot lower than I thought.

When we closed escrow and they told us the house was ours, I can’t tell you how happy my family was. We have a home and a garage, and we have already made changes and we didn’t have to get permission.
