As a Real Estate Agent I am often faced with assumptions from various people that I knew exactly what the perfect, forever home would look like.
The truth…I have no idea, even when I thought I had the slightest clue it changed. Not because I changed but because the circumstances changed.
Before I became a Realtor, I spent nearly eight years working in the home valuation department of a mortgage company, where I worked with different appraisers and their opinion of what a property’s value was worth.
Back then, I learned how to evaluate a home's value on paper.
Years later, after entering real estate with my husband, life taught me something just as important:
A home's value and a home's meaning aren't always the same.
Over the years, we've bought and sold several homes—not because we were searching for something bigger or better, but because each chapter of our lives called for something different.
We once sold a house to buy a condo because we dreamed of traveling more.
Then life surprised us, and soon after we welcomed our son. We quickly realized that condo living no longer fit the season we were in.
A few years later, our family grew, our business grew, and we found ourselves needing something else we hadn't planned for—a dedicated home office.
Every move taught me something.
Not just about houses.....but about people.
I've experienced the excitement of finding the right home, the uncertainty that comes with selling one you love, the stress of moving, and the hope that comes with starting a new chapter.
Those experiences have made me a better Realtor because I've been in my clients' shoes.
Today, I look around our home and think this may be our forever home.
Then again...
One day the kids will leave for college, and perhaps life will ask us to begin another chapter.
Only time will tell.
Until then, I'm grateful for this little reading corner—a place to slow down, learn, and appreciate the season we're in.
