If you grew up in the Oyster River School District, you can probably spell “MOHARIMET” without even thinking about it.
We all learned where the name came from, and if you spent enough time in the area, you saw it everywhere: Moharimet Elementary, Moharimet Drive… it’s just part of growing up an Oyster River kid.
Well… I was today years old when I learned there’s actually a street in Durham called Moharinet Way.
Not Moharimet.
Moharinet.

Apparently, when the subdivision was created in the 1960s, a typographical error on the recorded plot map changed the M to an N, and the mistake was never corrected. More than 60 years later, the street still carries the misspelled name.
So now I have to ask…
