I often get asked about selling a home with solar panels. Here is what the solar company doesn't tell you.

In San Antonio, the value of your panels depends entirely on whether you own them or lease them.

If you own your panels, it is usually a win. Buyers love lower CPS Energy bills without a monthly equipment payment. This can actually increase your home value and help it sell faster.

If the panels are leased, it can be a hurdle. The buyer has to qualify to take over your monthly payments. Some buyers see this as just another bill they don't want to carry.

If you plan to sell, have your production records ready. Showing a buyer exactly how much you save on your summer AC bill is the best way to prove the value.
