The qualifications of LLSI for performing geomembrane leak location services are unrivaled in the industry. The present eleven members of LLSI have a combined total of more than 103 years of commercial geomembrane leak location experience. A list of projects in which LLSI has performed geomembrane leak location services would include more than 1,900 leak location surveys and more than 247,000,000 square feet of survey. In the last three years we performed 473 geomembrane leak location surveys including 4,260 leaks found in more than 97,000,000 square feet (2,242 acres) of surveys. LLSI has provided leak location services in 46 states, six provinces, and 23 countries. The principals of LLSI began the development of the geoelectric leak location method in 1980 and the first commercial leak location survey was performed in 1985. are unmatched in the world. Our only business is geomembrane leak location services and we maintain excess staff to respond quickly to project requirements and to perform large leak location surveys quickly and without delay. We manufacture most of our own equipment and have several sets of leak location equipment so equipment malfunctions will not result in project delays. Here's the part of liner construction people don't always see.

Even with a strong QA/QC program, a completed geomembrane can be exposed to equipment, drainage materials, protective layers, penetrations, weather, and plenty of job-site activity before the facility ever enters service.

LLSI's published field experience identifies factors such as liner care and handling, environmental conditions, liner design, material characteristics, and seaming workmanship as contributors to minimizing leaks.

It sounds like the perfect specification.

But engineering is about defining performance that is realistic, measurable, and appropriate for the project.

LLSI’s technical literature explains that demanding extreme detection sensitivity can require near-perfect site conditions and much closer measurement spacing—adding significant time and cost without necessarily producing a meaningful improvement in liner-system performance.

The smarter question may be:

Here’s an interesting one from the LLSI archives.

At a municipal landfill, dye testing was performed to investigate suspected liner leakage. After at least 40 days of monitoring, no dye was detected.

An electrical leak location survey was then performed on the same areas.

Two leaks were located. One was approximately 1 inch in diameter, while the other was considerably larger.

It’s a great reminder that when liner integrity matters, choosing the right testing method matters too.
