Back to basics

Before you “clean up” the yard —
remember:
someone lives there. 🐛

That leaf pile?
It’s winter shelter.

For butterflies.
For native bees.
For beetles.
For fireflies.
For the soil itself.

When we clear everything too early in spring, we remove habitat before temperatures are stable. Many pollinators are still dormant inside stems and leaf litter.

A tidy yard to us
can mean eviction to them.

Spring cleaning is fine.

Just don’t clean out the life.

Leave a corner wild.
Delay the rake.
Let nature wake up first.
