Julian’s apple crop is light this year. Here’s which orchards actually have apples 🍎

It isn’t one orchard, it’s seven, and they all run on different schedules.

PICKING THIS WEEKEND

Volcan Valley, Saturdays and possibly Sundays, 9 to 4:30. No Fridays this year. $5 a person, $20 a bag, and one bag per group is plenty. Kids 5 and under free, dogs welcome on a leash. They confirm each weekend on their own site, so check before you drive up.

Mesa Blooms, opening day is this Friday, September 11. Fri to Sun 9 to 4, or until the day’s ripe apples run out. $12 a person including kids over 1, which covers admission and a quarter peck bag. Cash or Venmo only.

Old Peacefield, reservations required, pick times at 9, 10, 11 and 12. $5 a person, $20 for a half peck bag. Cash or Zelle only.

Julian Mining Co, and this one is different. Not a u-pick farm. A $10 guided 20 minute harvest tour, bag and admission included, ages 5 and up with under 5 free. Sat 9 to 4, Sun 10 to 4. Gold panning and gem sluicing on the same property.

Apple Lane, next posted date is Saturday September 12, 10 to 4. $15 a person, kids 2 and under free. No pets. Reservations or first come walk ins.

OPENING LATER

Ranchita del Reo, September 26. Reservations only, no public entry, no pets in the orchard or parking areas. Over 30 heirloom varieties including Arkansas Black, Northern Spy and Stayman Winesap. Fridays and Mondays their store is open to anyone for apples and c***r.

Julian Farm and Orchard, early to mid October. Their September apples did not produce this year. Picking is by Apple Tour reservation, price still TBD, and everyone 3 and up needs a spot. The farm is open now Fri to Sun 10 to 4 through November 15 for pumpkins, u-pick flowers and the animal sanctuary.

With fewer orchards picking, rows clear out faster. Go in the morning, and check the orchard’s page the day you drive up.

Some of the best stargazing in California is an hour from San Diego. 🌌

Julian is a certified International Dark Sky Community, which means once the sun goes down, the sky here does things it just can’t do near the city. The Milky Way with your bare eyes. Meteor showers that actually look like something.

We saved you the dates for the 2026–2027 season (swipe for all of them). The big one: the Geminids, December 13–14, with well over 100 shooting stars an hour under an almost-moonless sky.
