Please join us in welcoming our new intern, Jake Ifrid! 👋Jake is currently a senior at San Diego State University studying real estate finance and is the incoming president of the institution's Real Estate Society.

Jake was born and raised in San Diego, grew up playing football and lacrosse, and enjoys going to the beach, hiking and wakeboarding in his free time! 🌊

Our senior director, Matt Davis, recently attended the California Association of Realtors () Legislative Day. On Legislative Day, California realtors meet and discuss real estate issues directly with their state legislature. The day was filled with dynamic conversations with political leaders and networking with industry professionals!

Matt is also a part of the San Diego Association of Realtors () Government Affairs Department, which manages the advocacy programs established to protect and advance the interest of members and clients. The Government Affairs Committee provides advice to local policymakers and key government staff, lobbies on behalf of the industry, and makes recommendations for candidates who share similar values.

It’s essential to make your voice heard in the legislature, and we’re proud of Matt for leading that charge!

We attended the University Challenge — a commercial real estate competition — to cheer on our intern ! The competition was between , , and . Each year, NAIOP chooses a site for the student teams to pitch the best use for the case study. Potential issues to be addressed include financing, transit-oriented issues, sustainable development, traffic patterns, community impact, feasibility, and investment returns.

This year’s site was a redevelopment of 24 acres of the 76-acre regional mall, Westfield’s Plaza Bonita Mall in National City.

It was such a pleasure to see the innovation and creativity of each of the teams.

We recently attended ASFMRA California Chapter's Outlook 2023 Agribusiness Conference!ASFMRA, the American Society of Farm Managers & Rural Appraisers, is an organization that empowers, educates, and supports all agricultural professionals.

The conference was complete with tour stops at Turlock Irrigation District Headquarters & Lateral 8 Regulating Reservoir, Hilmar Cheese Company, Zaiger Genetics, and Sciabica’s Olive Oil.

Our takeaways from the event ⤵️
✔️ California’s Surface Water Market is the most active in the western US. There is $4.3 billion in traded water value since 2013.
✔️ Water values and opportunities for monetization apart from crop production are increasing.
✔️ Farmland values are highly dependent upon the farm’s water supply portfolio and associated revenues and costs which can vary significantly even within a district.
