🐔🍯 Why did the chicken cross the road?

Apparently, to get to Solana Beach City Hall.

The city is considering new rules that could allow backyard chickens in more neighborhoods and permit backyard beekeeping for the first time.

One of the more interesting moments from the discussion? Mayor Lesa Heebner shared that her husband currently has three beehives that are technically illegal under today’s rules.

So I’m curious
how many people in Solana Beach have been waiting for this day?

A vacant dirt lot on Salk Avenue could soon become home to nearly 400 new apartments in Carlsbad. đŸ—ïž

The project includes 397 units, affordable housing, resort-style amenities, and a building height that’s already sparked some debate.

With housing continuing to be one of the biggest issues in North County, it’s another sign that Carlsbad is looking for ways to add more homes — even in places that weren’t traditionally residential.

What do you think: smart use of land, or too much density for the area?

🚁 Walmart says drone delivery is headed to San Diego.

That means groceries, medications, pet supplies, and other everyday essentials could someday be flying into neighborhoods across the county in just minutes.

No launch date has been announced yet, but the company says San Diego is part of its expansion plans through 2027.

The real question:

What’s the one thing you’ve forgotten at the store often enough that you’d pay extra to have a drone bring it to your house? 😂👇

đŸ· New winery near Moonlight Beach?

A proposed Encinitas project just cleared another major hurdle and would bring 16 condos, affordable housing units, a restaurant, tasting room, and winery to Second Street.

It’s the kind of project that gets people talking—adding housing and new businesses in one of the most desirable areas of North County.

Would you welcome this addition to Encinitas, or do you think development near the beach is getting a little too close for comfort?

đŸ„‘ Whole Foods is coming back to Encinitas.

The new store will take over the former Kohl’s space at Encinitas Marketplace as part of a $10 million renovation of the center.

But the bigger story may be what’s happening across North County. Whole Foods is also opening a location in Carmel Mountain Ranch, Trader Joe’s is expanding in San Marcos, and another Trader Joe’s may be headed to Encinitas.

It feels like grocery stores are becoming the new anchor tenants for shopping centers, replacing the department stores and movie theaters that used to drive traffic.

And you may have heard of something called the “Whole Foods Effect”—the idea that when a Whole Foods opens, property values tend to rise in the surrounding area.

But this is Encinitas... I think home prices are doing just fine on their own. 😄

👇 I’m curious:

If you could only shop at one grocery store for the next year, which one are you picking?

Measure A looked like one of the most closely watched housing measures in San Diego this year, but early results suggest voters aren’t buying it.

The proposal would have taxed certain vacant second homes thousands of dollars per year in an effort to encourage more housing availability. Supporters saw it as a housing solution. Opponents saw it as another tax with questionable results.

What do you think — would this have helped San Diego’s housing situation, or not moved the needle much at all?

🏒 A major new sports facility could be coming to Kit Carson Park.

The Ducks, Gulls, and Rinks Foundation are exploring a proposal for a three-rink ice sports complex that would become the largest of its kind in San Diego County.

The project would reportedly be privately funded and could bring youth hockey, figure skating, public skating, tournaments, and a new training facility for the San Diego Gulls to Escondido.

So far, the response seems mostly positive, but some residents have raised questions about how the project could affect other recreational uses at Kit Carson Park, including sports fields and the popular disc golf course.

What do you think? Would this be a great addition to Escondido, or do you have concerns you’d like addressed?

“In Mira Mesa, the phrase ‘coming soon’ has officially lost all meaning.” 😂

The Lazy Dog planned for the former Mimi’s Cafe location is still moving forward, but according to recent planning documents, it could be about another year before it finally opens.

I’ve never actually been to a Lazy Dog, but based on how often people ask about this location, I know plenty of people are looking forward to it.

For those of you who have been— is it worth the wait? đŸ¶đŸ”
