Pacific Highlands Ranch is getting a new bakery! šŸ„ā˜•ļø

TOUS les JOURS is expected to move into the former Panera Bread location at The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch.

Despite the French name, TOUS les JOURS is a Korean bakery cafƩ known for its blend of French and Asian flavors. Its menu includes freshly baked breads, pastries, cakes, sandwiches, coffee, tea and blended drinks.

Thereā€™s no official opening date yet, but it will likely arrive sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.

Iā€™m curious what everyone thinks about this one. Is TOUS les JOURS a good replacement for Panera?

šŸ—ļø A proposed 31-unit, five-story apartment project in the San Elijo Hills Town Center is getting a lot of attention ā€” particularly around wildfire evacuation and emergency access.

Nearly 3,000 people have signed a petition, with residents asking for a project-specific wildfire and evacuation analysis before the project moves forward.

The project is scheduled to come before the City on October 5th.

With San Elijo Hillsā€™ limited routes in and out ā€” and the communityā€™s experience during the 2014 Cocos Fire ā€” what questions would you want answered before a decision is made?

The New York Times names an Escondido taco shop one of its 50 favorite restaurants in Americaā€¦ naturally, I had to investigate. šŸŒ®šŸ˜‚

Mesa Agricola is a tiny, unassuming spot near Escondido & 7th with only about 15 seats ā€” and it was PACKED the day I went.

I tried the Steak Colorado and Chorizo tacos, and yeahā€¦ I get the hype.

Friendly people, simple menu, seriously good food, and ingredients coming from their own farm in Valley Center.

Also, Iā€™m sticking with my theory: the smaller the taco shop, the better the tacos.

Whoā€™s tried this place already? And what should I get next time?

A mini Little Italy across from the UTC mall? šŸ‘€

Thatā€™s essentially the vision for High Street Village, the massive redevelopment replacing the old Costa Verde Center.

Plans call for a walkable main street inspired by India Street in Little Italy, with restaurants, cafƩs, shops, a small grocery store and a piazza connected directly to the trolley.

And above it all? Potentially thousands of apartments, condos and other types of housing ā€” which makes this project even more interesting to me.

Thereā€™s still a long way to go, with vertical construction currently expected to start around mid-2028.

šŸ—ļø Oceanside is getting 41 new homes across two projects near the coast ā€” including six affordable units.

But thereā€™s an interesting wrinkle: because these projects are located near transit, state law allows them to move forward without the usual parking requirements.

Both developers ARE including parkingā€¦ just fewer regular spaces than residential units. šŸš—

Rancho Bernardo could be getting something it hasnā€™t seen in a long timeā€”a brand-new housing community. šŸ˜ļø

KB Home is proposing City View, a community of 122 three-story townhomes across from Vons and the RB Town Center.

The project would replace roughly 75,000 square feet of office space. Thirteen of the homes would be designated affordable.

Since the property is currently commercial, the City would need to approve changing its planning designation and zoning to residential.

The timing is interesting because San Diego is also beginning the first major update to Rancho Bernardoā€™s Community Plan in nearly 50 years. That process will help guide future housing, parks, businesses, and infrastructure through 2028 and beyond.

City View has not been approved yet, but it will be discussed at two Rancho Bernardo Planning Board meetings this week.

What do you thinkā€”does Rancho Bernardo need some updates and new housing, or should this property remain commercial?

I was showing a house in Escondido Wednesday, and the second I stepped out of my car the heat practically took my breath away. šŸ„µ

Turns outā€¦ Escondido hit 112Ā° and shattered its previous record by 8 degrees.

So I called in local weather expert Megan Healy to explain what caused this crazy heat ā€” and, more importantly, when North County gets some relief.

Anyone else walk outside Wednesday and immediately reconsider their plans? šŸ˜‚

Did the Padresā€™ new ownership group just send a little āš”ļø signal to San Diego?

Kwanza Jones posted Chargers colors, talked about ā€œpossibilityā€ and ā€œwhat else could be,ā€ then casually dropped a lightning bolt at the end.

Coincidence? Maybe. šŸ‘€

Obviously, weā€™re a LONG way from the Chargers actually returning to San Diego ā€” but hereā€™s the real question:

šŸ“ˆ Which North County neighborhoods are having the best year for home prices?

The latest numbers through August show some interesting movement across North County.

Carlsbad shows up three times, Oceanside twice, Poway cracks the top threeā€¦ and then thereā€™s Del Mar sitting at +30%. šŸ˜³

One important thing to remember: these are changes in median sales price, not how much every individual home has appreciated. The mix of homes that sold can definitely impact these numbers.

But itā€™s another reminder that there really isnā€™t one single ā€œNorth County housing market.ā€ Every community can be moving a little differently.
