🌳 East Village Green is officially on track to arrive in 2026 — and it could be one of the most important upgrades downtown San Diego has seen in years. Spanning roughly 3.6 acres in the heart of East Village, this long-awaited park will bring real green space to a neighborhood that’s grown fast but hasn’t always felt livable. With a large central lawn, playground and splash pad, off-leash dog parks, public art, and a community center for events, it’s designed to be a true everyday escape — not just a pass-through plaza.

More than anything, East Village Green feels like a shift in priorities: less concrete, more community. When it opens in 2026, it won’t just serve residents — it’ll set the tone for what downtown San Diego should look like going forward. The neighborhood around Petco Park now has its own, dedicated crew working to make it clean.

Before the Ballpark District cleaning crews hit the streets this summer, the area was covered by the Downtown Partnership’s Clean & Safe program, which provides cleaning and homeless outreach services for all of downtown.

But that program dedicated 21 workers to the 130 blocks of East Village. The new district relies on 20 learning crew members for the 22-block area.

The new Ballpark District crew collected 160,000 pounds of trash between July 1 and Oct. 31.

Now that workers have been on the streets for a few months, the district is expanding into beautification and streetscape improvements. They’ve rolled out new branding on trash cans, doggy bag dispensers and outdoor seating areas to make it obvious when someone is inside the Ballpark District. The crew this month installed holiday lighting, too.
