HomeFirst

HomeFirst 45 years of hope, housing, and HomeFirst. We offer a full spectrum of evidence-based services to support people who are unhoused or housing insecure.

The HomeFirst Story
In 1980, a group of service providers and advocates saw a gap in homeless services. With eight families in crisis and without a place to go, these advocates set out to help, ultimately creating an agency that would meet the needs of unhoused families in Santa Clara County. Since then, HomeFirst has expanded significantly. During FY24 (ending June 30, 2024), we impacted over 10,

000 individuals including youth, seniors, and veterans, across two counties (Santa Clara and Sonoma). Approximately 6,000 people received direct supportive services from HomeFirst and another 4,500+ benefited from our systems leadership.

“You don’t need experience to make a difference.” ❤️

Kit Builds bring people together to pack essential items for neighbors experiencing homelessness—things like hygiene supplies, snacks, and weather protection.

One of the best parts is that anyone can participate. Parents and kids, youth groups, classrooms, sports teams, and local organizations can all come together to help support the community.

These moments don’t just provide supplies—they teach compassion, connection, and the importance of showing up for one another.

Connection matters. Community matters. Access matters.

We’re proud to partner with local agencies and service providers for our upcoming Community Resource Fair — bringing together housing support, mental health services, harm reduction resources, mobile phone services, veteran programs, warm weather supplies, pet food support, and more, all in one place.

📍 Bascom Community Center

This event is about making services more accessible and creating opportunities for people to connect with the support they need.

A huge thank you to Anthem Blue Cross and all the partners, staff, and community organizations helping make this event possible. Together, we can meet people where they are and strengthen pathways toward stability and housing.

For Deitri, finding HomeFirst became a turning point — what she calls her second chance.

Through the support of her case manager, Jackie, and access to critical resources, Deitri was able to begin rebuilding her life. Today, she is sober, stable, and looking forward to her future with hope.

Stories like Deitri’s are a reminder that homelessness is not a personal failure — and that recovery and stability are possible when people have access to compassionate support, housing, and community.

At HomeFirst, our teams work every day to walk alongside participants through some of life’s hardest moments, helping create pathways toward long-term stability and healing.

We invite you to watch Deitri’s story, learn more about our work, and explore ways to get involved in supporting our community. Visit our website at homefirstscc.org.

Memorial Day is a time for remembrance—honoring the lives of those who served and are no longer with us.

It’s also a reminder that for many Veterans, the journey doesn’t end when service does. Some are still facing challenges today, including the need for stable housing, support, and connection.

At HomeFirst, we believe their service doesn’t end—and our responsibility doesn’t either. Through our Veterans’ programs, we work alongside those who have served to help them access housing and supportive services that honor their dignity and experience.

Teresa is rebuilding her life — one step at a time.

After years of homelessness and struggles with substance use, she made the decision to come back to HomeFirst and fight for a different future. Today, she’s celebrating sobriety, focusing on her health, preparing for construction training, and working toward a home of her own.

Her story is a reminder that homelessness can happen for many different reasons — and that lasting change takes support, stability, and community.

Every day, HomeFirst helps people like Teresa take the next step toward safety, healing, and independence. But there is still more work to do.

We’re so grateful for partners like Adobe who continue to make a lasting impact in our community.

During this recent kit build, Adobe employees assembled and funded 100 hygiene kits, 100 warm weather kits, and 100 pet kits for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

And this is just one example of the many ways Adobe supports HomeFirst. Through multiple kit builds each year and ongoing sponsorship, they continue to show up with generosity, compassion, and commitment to our mission.

Thank you, Adobe, for helping provide essential resources — and reminding our community that people care. 💙

When a family member needs life-saving surgery, you drop everything to help. That instinct doesn’t change just because the family member has four legs.

For many of the individuals we serve, their pets are their constant—family, comfort, and stability in the hardest moments. But when an unexpected veterinary emergency happens, there’s often no savings left to fall back on. One crisis can quickly become impossible.

That’s where the Companion Animal Resource and Emergency (CARE) Fund comes in.

CARE helps bridge the gap when a pet needs urgent medical care—covering critical surgeries, emergency treatments, and other lifesaving services so people don’t have to choose between stability and staying together. It keeps families intact when everything else feels like it’s falling apart.

If you believe people shouldn’t have to face their hardest moments alone—or without their companion by their side—consider supporting the CARE Fund today.

Asian Americans are often left out of conversations about homelessness — but that doesn’t mean the issue isn’t there.

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness , homelessness among Asian Americans has risen significantly in recent years, including sharp increases in unsheltered homelessness. Yet harmful stereotypes and the “model minority” myth continue to make many experiences invisible.

Homelessness impacts every community.

And culturally responsive care starts with acknowledging who may be overlooked, underserved, or undercounted.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we recognize the importance of visibility, dignity, and ensuring that no one’s experience is erased from the conversation.
