The Class of 2026 at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at A. Maceo Smith in Dallas achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate, with all 54 graduating seniors collectively earning $15.4 million in scholarships, marking the second-highest scholarship total in the school’s history.  Several members of the class are first-generation college students, and their destinations include elite universities like Princeton and Columbia, with majors ranging from theater and finance to mechanical engineering and nursing. · Principal Derek Thomas credited the school’s unique structure for the outcome, explaining that the academy follows these young men from sixth grade all the way through graduation, creating continuity and accountability that most schools can’t offer. “Our brothers are motivated. They understand that there’s a higher expectation beyond just high school itself,” he said.  The school refers to its students as brothers, a deliberate choice that reflects the brotherhood-based culture at the center of how the academy operates. · What makes this story stand out beyond the numbers is what it represents: a school full of young Black men, in Dallas, Texas, all walking across a stage with money secured and a future waiting for them. Every single one. No exceptions. The narrative that Black boys in urban school districts don’t achieve at high levels gets dismantled completely every time a school like this produces a class like this. This is what investment, structure, high expectations, and community look like in action.
