But the government offers some options in case of a natural disaster - like mortgage forbearance (a pause on payments).

Fannie is projecting home sales to grow by only 4% next year, down from its original estimate of 11%.
On the bright side, it expects the housing market to rebound in 2026 - with sales growing by 17% year over year.
