""When we moved into our new cohousing community, we knew no one. We moved across the country and had been excited to live with people who wanted to know their neighbors. The second day after moving in, a knock came on my door and a nine year old girl walked in and started talking to me. She proceeded to go into the master bedroom (on the first floor) and jump on the bed while talking to me. I asked her name, she shared and said 'welcome to the community'. I had just put my two year old down for a nap and the girl had just gotten home from school. It was heartwarming to see her confidence both to knock on our door and walk in to welcome me, kid style. The rest of the community was stopping by to offer meals for dinner, etc. but this introduction was so special and so comforting to me"

Tales from Cohousing! 💙 We have several members who have previously lived in and raised families in cohousing, on both the East and West Coasts. Here's a personal vignette from one:

"Common meals were offered two to four times a week in our community. If you were on the team cooking, you signed up and either prepared the meal as sous chef or master chef, shopped or cleaned up afterwards. As a parent, I loved that our daughter had a fantastic meal and I could be one of the people involved preparing the meal, or on other occasions, sitting and talking to our friends, watching our older daughter play and learn to help clean up. When several of your meals are relaxing and all you have to do is participate once a month, you realize how much time is involved in your daily meal preparation. We continue to work with our architects on the Common House and Individual Home designs. Recently, Mountain View Cohousing graciously hosted some of our members and Explorers for a 2nd time - to tour their community, gather design ideas and answer questions. It's wonderful to see cohousing communities helping each other in this way, and we hope one day to do the same for another group! Our latest social, a 'progressive potluck' at two member homes. At the first, we learned about hydroponic gardening, reviewed and discussed private home designs, and enjoyed a healthy potluck lunch. We then traveled a couple of miles down the road to a beautiful lemon-themed dessert buffet.
