Growing up in Seattle, one of my dearest high school friends lived on a floating home. Every Fourth of July, we would spend the holiday lying on her fun island at the end of her dock, watching the fireworks. Besides spending those nostalgic summer nights on her family's floating home, I also spent countless high school days with Nicole hanging out at her home. Even in college, when the family was away and Nicole was in Pullman, she would let our other friend Laura and me study in the peace and tranquility of their home on the water. Years later, after going through a divorce and selling our home we had lived in for 18 years, I decided to do something I had always wanted to do - live on a floating home. So, I packed up my belongings and moved to one in Portage Bay. My year living there was a transformative and magical time.
Some of the things that I had imagined about living on a floating home came true. It really was magical and here are some of the reasons why: The reflection of the water every morning brought peace to my heart and mind, doing yoga surrounded by cedar shingle interior walls and sliding doors that opened to the water added a zen-like experience to each session, working from my desk while watching the water move toward my home in its almost melodic rhythm helped wash away the lingering sadness in me, leaving my home each day and having kind, friendly neighbors saying good morning and 'how are you doing' reminded me how special the floating home community truly is. It's the unique and quirky collection of homes - and the wonderful humans who gather in them - that make it that way.
These are just a few examples of why I love this community of homes and why I love representing buyers and sellers here. It isn't for everyone, but for the lucky ones who see the beauty in this lifestyle, it is magical.
This weekend I will be hosting an open house at this beauty! Come by and see what makes this lifestyle so special.
