ICE STORM PREPARATION TIPS ❄️
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL LOCAL EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR UPDATES AND PROCEDURES
Charge & Prepare
- Fully charge phones, tablets, laptops, and battery packs
- Keep chargers together; switch to Low Power Mode if power goes out
- Write down important phone numbers
- Fill vehicles with gas and check tire pressure
- Flashlights, lanterns, extra batteries (avoid candles AT ALL COSTS)
Water
- Keep at least 1 gallon of water per person per day
- Fill bathtubs for toilet flushing only
- Fill extra containers with water
- Keep a steady drip in faucets to prevent any pipes from freezing
Food & Essentials
- Canned goods (pull-top preferred), peanut butter, granola/protein bars, nuts, jerky, bread/bagels, fruit, shelf-stable milk/shakes.
- Manual can opener
- Disposable plates/utensils
- Toilet paper, wipes, hand sanitizer
- Trash bags
- 3–7-day supply of medications
- First aid kit & important documents in a waterproof bag
Stay Warm
- Extra blankets/sleeping bags
- Warm clothes, socks, hats, gloves
- Close off unused rooms and block drafts with towels
If Power Goes Out
- Limit opening fridge/freezer
- Use 1 main room for warmth
- Conserve phone battery (airplane mode)
- Use tub water to flush
- Check on elderly neighbors if safe
