Getting to know people and helping them with their wants and needs has been a central focus of my professional life since I started working in luxury retail, around 2007. Like so many other public-facing roles, regardless of the industry, the key to success is to provide a highly attentive, personalized standard of service. I like to think my clients immediately recognize my sincerity, warmth and approachability. Working in retail gave me an expertise in customer service and strong attention to detail; it’s a pleasure to leverage these skills for the benefit of my clients. Transitioning to real estate has been a great career choice, as I truly love working with people and have always had an interest in architecture/design. When my husband and I purchased here on Topsail, I was intrigued by the nuances of buying coastal properties and have constantly worked to improve my knowledge base since then, so I can educate and guide my clients. I remember how excited I was during the process of finding that new home and I have absolutely loved being a part of that journey with my clients. Being raised in Northeastern PA, my family and I visited many different local beaches every year, so I have a huge appreciation for the Coastal Carolina lifestyle and enjoy helping my clients find their own version of what I think of as paradise. My parents moved here full-time around 2008 and I have been traveling here from NYC and Virginia to visit them ever since. I never forget how lucky I am to live and work here on the island or lose sight of the importance of my role in a transaction. As far as other traits I have that help my clients, I am a classically trained musician. Though it may not sound applicable, it gave me a work ethic and sense of determination that has affected every aspect of my life. A sea turtle walks into a bar…
Sounds like I was about to tell you a joke, doesn’t it?

We love our local bars as much as anybody, but if a hatchling actually ends up here, this little guy definitely took a wrong turn. The ocean is the other way.

The photo is meant to be funny, but the message behind it is very real.

When sea turtle hatchlings emerge, they rely on light cues to help guide them toward the ocean. Lights from oceanfront homes and even flashlights on the beach can confuse them and send them in the wrong direction. Sometimes a long way from where they’re supposed to be.

It’s something the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center works hard to educate people about right here on Topsail Island. Keep our beaches Clean, Dark and Flat.
And that Flat part matters too.

So during turtle season, keep those oceanfront lights out, close the blinds when you can, be mindful of flashlights on the beach, and fill in those holes before heading home.

It’s a small thing for us, but it can make a big difference for a hatchling trying to find its way to the ocean.

We’d love to see you at the local bar.
The turtles? Not so much.
They’re supposed to be looking for the ocean, not a cold beer.
