“I will show you my faith by my works”

I’m thankful started an orchestra at our church to further encourage a culture of musical excellence.

The inaugural performance was this week and it was so fun to watch members of our church (young and old) combine their individual skills to make music with more depth and breadth.

Such a beautiful picture of how the church should work in all areas of our lives.

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”

That line from G.K. Chesterton cuts to the heart of a Christian theology of violence.

Violence is not about rage, or vengeance, or proving yourself. It’s about love.

A father fights because he loves his wife.
A soldier fights because he loves his brothers.
A Christian man fights because he loves the God who gave him people and property to defend.

We don’t get to outsource protection. We don’t get to delegate courage.

When evil shows up, someone stands in the gap. If you are a man of God, that someone had better be you.

This mindset reframes everything.

Training with weapons isn’t paranoia — it’s preparation.
Physical discipline isn’t vanity — it’s stewardship.
Mental toughness isn’t ego — it’s obedience.

Because when the day comes, the fight isn’t about what’s in front of you.

It’s about what’s behind you:
Your wife.
Your children.
Your church.
Your community.

Violence, rightly ordered, is an act of love.

The is no inflation of time only the money your exchange that time for.

The better you use your time the less inflation of money matters.

A full week has 168 hours.

If you:
- sleep 8 hours a night,
- spend 2 hrs/day on meals, fitness, and hygiene
- work 50 hours (only about 10% of Americans work this much)
- take Sundays completely off—no emails, no side hustles etc.

You’re left with a whopping 34 hours of “free” time.

That’s almost a full work week!

How you spend this time is indicative of your current situation in life.

Stockings in the bus were full despite a very small chimney.

Merry Christmas everyone.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (ESV)

Men looking back at your life: can you remember the moment(s) you became a man?

What was it?

How are you emulating/changing this for your son(s)?

It doesn’t matter how badass we were on the battlefield. If we can’t build and protect our households, what we fought to protect will eventually perish.

In the next presidential election, I’ll have a son and daughter that can vote. The election after that I’ll have two more kids that can vote. In 2040, seven people from my household that can vote.

We’re in this for the long haul and we’ve invested where it counts.

The election results aren’t even in the top 5 reasons why we have a big family. That being said, get used to election outcomes like this week.
