A big shoutout to neighbor Mike! Mike had hit this deer, watched him do a cartwheel and go down within 50 yards from where he shot. As he started to fist pump the deer got back up and took off running. Mike and his crew tracked for a ways and eventually ran out of blood to follow. We went over to help Mike and located the buck bedded near a creek bottom. He was still alive but in rough shape. We checked on him later that evening and he still hadn’t expired so I told him I would check before work the next morning. I went back the next morning and he had finally expired. Congratulations Mike on your biggest buck to date! 🍻 🦌

Here are a few bucks that we were able to confirm that they are alive and not fatally hit.

There is a lot of times from the sky that we are unable to see where the hunter hit the deer. The body language of the animal is what we depend on the most when trying to make a judgement call of whether or not the deer was fatally hit. You can generally make this assumption in the first 10 seconds of viewing the deer.

Whether it’s during a recovery or over the initial phone call requesting my services, I will always give you my honest opinion on the details I’m given as to whether your animal is going to live or die. The last thing the hunter normally wants to hear is that the deer they shot is going to live. I’m not doing this to take your money and run, that’s not me! My goal is to always give the hunter my most educated answer pertaining to their situation to help them as much as possible. Happy hunting! 🍻🦌

Congratulations goes out to Ben on your awesome crab claw buck! Ben had felt really good about his shot but unfortunately his lighted nock didn’t light up after he shot, so he wasn’t quite sure where he had hit. He had watched the general direction the deer was headed after the shot, but had minimal blood to work with. We put the eye in the sky and we were able to locate his deer in about 15 minutes. Ben’s words were “I don’t think I would’ve ever found this deer without you”. We love to hear it and that’s what we’re here for! Congrats buddy!

🚨 🚨 A GIANT has fallen 🚨 🚨

A huge congratulations goes out to Josh on this buck of a lifetime. We got the call Tuesday night from Josh’s brother and he said Josh just hit the big one. I knew immediately which deer he meant as we had previous conversations over the last couple of years about this buck he had been chasing. We arrived over to their farm after finishing up a recovery and the whole crew was there and fired up about this buck.

If there was ever a time I wanted to set a world record for the fastest recovery ever, it was definitely at this moment. It of course went the opposite way. I searched and I searched and I searched and was starting to watch the life drain out of Josh’s face. After 1.5 hours of looking we finally located this buck in the one location we hadnt gone over yet. He was bedded down at the top of the tallest hill in the county and he was still alive. The buck was very very alert and you could tell his adrenaline was running very high. We verified it was him and got the drone out of there as quick as we could.

We came back the next morning with high hopes that he would be there dead. I flew up to the marked location and there he was, GONE! At this point Im nearly certain Josh’s heart stopped working for a second or two.

I began the search again and we were lucky enough to relocate him in about 15 extremely nerv racking minutes. This time he was dead!

After we recovered him the beers immediately started flowing. The buck was celebrated with friends, family and the surrounding neighbors on a bloody tailgate with busch lights and donuts like the good ole days.

This recovery will go down as one of my all time favorites that I was lucky enough to be a part of. This is also the largest deer to date that RDDS has recovered. Josh thank you very much for letting us be a part of this story! Cheers to big bucks and Busch lights! 🍻 🦌

Congrats to Jordan on this old warrior! They believe this buck was 8.5 years old and was the bully of the area. Jordan had nicknameed this buck “Nightmare” for obvious reasons. He seemed to always have a leg up on him no matter the circumstances. Jordan had been chasing this buck for years now and he finally was able to catch up to him. Jordan made a great shot but wanted to play it safe. We put the drone up and located the buck in about 30 seconds of flight time. He was still alive when we located him so we came back the next morning and he had expired. Congratulations Jordan, onto the next nightmare!

Nick called us up and said he had hit a buck. He had a close range shot and knew he put it through the front shoulder but wasn’t sure if he had enough pe*******on. After finding his arrow broke off he backed out and was able to figure out that he was missing about 8.5 inches of the arrow. We put the drone up and found him almost instantly bedded down by a creek. He was still alive but his body language was telling us he wouldn’t last much longer. We followed up the next day and he had expired overnight. Sadly the coyotes had beat us to him but we were still able to recover this great buck. Congratulations Nick on an awesome deer.

Eddy had hit this buck and knew right away if was a little far back. He was able to locate his arrow and found that it was covered in guts. Eddy played it smart and backed out. We went over that afternoon and we were able to locate him in about 40 minutes. He was still alive but looked like he would expire soon. We left him lay through the night and when we returned the next day he had expired. Congratulations Eddy on your beautiful 8 point!

This recovery is definitely one for the books. Kyle called us up and said he had hit a good buck and had decent blood but then lost it. We were able to locate the deer in about 25 minutes of looking. The deer was bedded down and visibly uncomfortable. We decided to leave him and come back the next day. Came back the next day sure enough he was still alive. We came back the following day after that and the deer had finally expired. After Kyle recovered the animal he figured out he had only hit one lung on the buck. This deer made it almost two full days after it had been hit on one lung. They continue to prove how tough they truly are and their determination to live is like no other.

Kyle congratulations on your perfect 10 point and your largest buck taken on your great grandfather’s property! Thank you for letting RDDS be a part of it! 🍻 🦌

Monday morning we were lucky enough to help Bryan locate his buck! Bryan had thought he hit back and after finding his arrow he was able to confirm just that. Bryan played it smart and gave him the night to expire. After about 45 minutes in the air we finally found him, the buck had gone quite a ways from the shot location. Congratulations Bryan on a great buck!

Bryan was able to use a gift certificate that RDDS donated to the Sparta Gridiron football banquet that was generously donated to him by a relative of his. We love giving back to the community in any way possible and supporting local businesses. If you’re looking for a good gun banquet please check this one out! 🏈 🦌

Two bucks confirmed alive and well tonight. Although we all want the outcome of finding a dead deer, that just isn’t reality sometimes. As a hunter, closure can sometimes be almost as rewarding as finding a dead one.

Things are really starting to heat up in the woods. When in doubt back out and give us a call!
