Last weekend Cheryl and I made the trip to the pro in Tennessee. We met with the gentleman who drilled our well and with the gentleman who will be doing our concrete work. I’m waiting on an estimate for the rough in of the plumbing. I’ll be back down there to lay out the house with the concrete guy. I’ll also start on putting up some walls in the shop and installing a wood burning stove. I’ll be staying in the shop this winter while working on the house. We’re still waiting for the electric company to run the wires down the road so we can at least get temporary electric. Cheryl learned how to operate the tractor and I was impressed how quickly she took to it. She enjoys driving it which is a good thing, she can cut the grass when we get to that point. I’ll include some pictures. We also visited the Amish community down there, they have just about everything I would need to build the house. I’ll be shopping around for the best prices. Right now, I’ve got to get the PDF of the blueprints out to get estimates for the lumber and floor joists and roof trusses so that will be ready to go once the concrete is done. We also visited some granite stores to inquire about prices for the countertops. Still deciding on granite, quartz, or marble. My sister started on our kitchen island, I’ll drop a pic she sent me last night. My sister, Sherry, is making all of our cabinets and the island. She may also be making the pantry cabinets and the cab for the bathrooms, but she doesn’t know that yet, but she will after reading this, SURPRISE! Lol. Anyway, I’ll post sone more as I think about it. Enjoy the pictures.

PS: the cat pic is from when we stopped to get gas. It was the friendliest cat I’ve ever encountered.

I know I haven’t posted much on here lately but I do have some good news. MY WELL IS IN! They had to drill 264 feet but they’re getting 15-16 gallons per minute. You only need about 5 gallons per minute to run a house so hopefully we don’t have any problems in the future with water. This is actually amazing because before we put an offer on the property I talked with a driller who said he did some preliminary drilling for the previous owners (not sure how that works), but anyway, he said he was getting only 4-5 gallons per minute.

I’m heading back to Tennessee this weekend to do some clearing and meet with the concrete guy for our slab. I’m hoping to have that started within the month. I’m also meeting with a company about clearing the first 5+ acres we bought. That will eliminate any concerns we have about falling trees hitting the house or shop. We also have the 5+ acres next to us that we will leave wooded. The plan at this point is to put a small log cabin on it for guests and a pond. I’ll also use it for hunting! So, that’s the update for now. Hope to post some more this weekend or early next week, also will be posting progress pictures when the slab starts!

Well, we got more good news today. About a month ago I met with the gentleman that will be drilling our well, he told me he was gonna say that it would be about 6-8 months before he could get out there to do the drilling, but it would probably be sooner. Well, I just got a phone call from him, he’s gonna be there within the next week. Definitely a lot sooner then I expected but I’m not complaining. The quicker we get these things done, the sooner we can get moved down there. He did give me some advice. He said he would hook up electric temporarily to the pump to make sure everything works properly but said I shouldn’t hook up electric to it permanently until we get closer to having the house move-in ready because once electric gets hook up permanently then the warranty on the pump starts.

Here’s another update. I met with the guy from the electrical company a few weeks ago in reference to getting temporary electric ran. He informed me that the electric on our road stopped about 200 yards up the road from me. To have it ran down to our property would be a significant expense but we got lucky. The person who owns the property across the road from me is in the process of building a home and is incurring the fee to have the electric ran down the road to his place. This means that the electric company will branch off of this new line and install a pole at the corner of my property, and the only fee I’ll be charged is the normal price, which is $1500 for the first 250 feet from the pole to my house, then after the first 250 feet it will be $15 a foot to run the electric underground or $10 a foot above ground. Obviously, we are running it underground. As for as the electric for the shop goes, I’m going to run a seperate 200 amp service from the house, branching off the house box, to the shop. This saves me having to run a separate line all the way from the pole to the shop, which is a good 200 plus yards. We got very lucky that the guy across the road is running the electric down the road. Had we had to pay to run it to our property, I’m being told it would of been in the $75,000 range.

I know I haven’t posted much on this page since I started it, but there should be more regular posting’s starting soon. There hasn’t been much movement since the shop went up, I think I’ve only took down a few trees. Stay with me folks, y’all will be seeing more progress postings coming soon.

Well, we finally got the revised blueprints back from the architect. Now y’all can see exactly what we’re trying to achieve. Cheryl designed the home herself, drawing it on graph paper. Can’t wait to get started.

This is the building of the “shop” from a few days ago. There was 4 guys working on it and it took about 10 hours to complete. I loved the fact, that while building the shop, the guys didn’t get things close, THEY GOT THINGS PERFECT! It’s obviously not these guys first rodeo. They usually load up with three of these buildings on their trailer. They finished early Wednesday morning and told me they were heading back to North Carolina to load up more and heading back out. I asked the guy if how often they see their families and he said, MAYBE one day a week. That’s gotta be hard on a family, especially if they have kids!

Welcome to the Just Say Hi Ranch, Cheryl’s and my forever home. This page is dedicated to documenting the building of our ranch which will be a take off of a barndominium. We hope to one day also have a small log cabin for guests and a pond for fishing. We hope you enjoy following our progress and feel free to offer advice, tips and constructive criticism, but keep in mind, if you get ignorant in your comments you’ll be removed from the page immediately and without any warning. This build may or may not be “the way” you would do it, and that’s fine, leave a comment with a suggestion cause God knows I don’t know everything there is to building a home. I’ll be bringing in licensed professionals to take care of things I can’t, won’t or don’t know how to do. With all that being said, I really hope y’all enjoy the ride!
