I preach on habitat a lot and I still believe it is the most important factor when building a healthy heard but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to help the deer out!

Want to improve your habitat but don’t know where to start? First thing you can do is create a disturbance. Whether that is RX Fire, thinning, or thinning through hack and sq**rt treatment. Open that canopy up and allow the sun to reach the understory. More of these you can do the better. Best of all none of them require much more than a farm tractor if that. Just a little effort goes a long way!

After you take the initial steps, the rest begins to seem more manageable and you’ll have a better idea of where to attack next.

The proof is right here. Both sides of this road were under almost 20+ years of fire suppression. We burned the left side in February and have began identifying trees we want to selectively thin. You can see the difference it makes for yourself.
