Nobody tells you about the 11pm "the wifi is down" message before you buy your first short term rental.
Here is what a real day looks like when you manage one yourself.
Guest messages come in at all hours. Not just check-in questions. Complaints, requests, confusion about the thermostat, questions already answered in your listing. You are the front desk, the concierge, and the on-call support line.
Pricing does not set itself. Rates that made sense Monday are wrong by Thursday. Local events, competitor availability, platform algorithm changes. Miss the window and you are leaving real money on the table or sitting vacant when you should be booked.
Vendors do not wait for a convenient time. The cleaner cancels the morning of a checkout. The HVAC makes a noise a guest describes as "kind of loud." You are coordinating from wherever you are, whatever you are doing.
Turnovers have zero margin for error. The next guest checks in four hours after the last one checks out. Everything has to be right. Every time.
