Cluttered spaces can make a house look dirty and disorganized. Here are 5 surprising things that make your house looked cluttered
1. Crowded Counters- Counters are the perfect place to quickly set things down when you’re in a rush and can easily become overcrowded. Try putting away anything you don’t use daily and throwing away/donating the things you haven’t used in 6 months
2. Disorganized Open Shelving- Open shelving is a popular way to display pictures or fun knickknacks, but can become disorganized by squeezing too many items onto the shelves. Try only putting out a few items while storing the rest until you’re ready to use them
3. Over-Furnished Rooms- The current trend is smaller homes so maintaining a realistic sense for the size and portion of furniture is a big deal. Putting too many furniture items or ones that are too big will not only make the room look smaller, it will make the room feel crowded and messy
4. Clutter Hot-Spots - Areas like the front entrance and the kitchen counter are two examples of places where clutter naturally collects. Try determining why things aren’t put away- do you need to add a hanger for coats or a bin for shoes? Do you need a designated space for paperwork? Adding storage like this is an easy fix for clutter hot-spots
5. Not Having A Place For Everything- Every item in your house should have a place, whether it’s your car keys or your video games. Start in one room and if something is laying out, create a home for it. Try finding a place to store it until it’s needed. If you can’t find a home for something, get rid of it or sacrifice another item in storage for that one
