Might be the time to hunker down by the fireplace. Be careful out there!

We're closing all forest roads within the Red River Gorge Geological Area and Indian Creek to motorized use today in advance of predicted winter weather. They will remain closed through the winter to protect them from the warm days, freezing nights and heavy precipitation that make gravel roads susceptible to rutting and potholes. Closed roads are still open to foot and bicycle traffic; please do not block the gates with parked vehicles.

Roads closed to motorized use as of 12/11/2025:

- Forest Roads 9, 9A, and 9B – Indian Creek
- Forest Road 10 – Chimney Top Road
- Forest Road 24 – Rock Bridge Road
- Forest Road 39 – Tunnel Ridge Road (past Gray’s Arch)

Please note that Tunnel Ridge Road will remain open to Grays Arch Picnic Area and Trailhead. KY 77, KY715, and Sky Bridge Road will remain fully open, however are low priority roads for winter weather maintenance.
