Looking for a new place for your furry friend to call home? You’re going to want to think about these things before you say “Yes” to the address!
1. Flooring.
-Glossy floors and dog nails equals emotional damage 😭 trust me.
-LVP is durable and easy to clean, HOWEVER, it’s also harder for your pooch to get traction. Think about the space with rugs.
-Carpet is not ideal for puppies as padding can hold scents and bacteria! You’ll want to invest in a spot cleaner for this one!
2. Layout
-Open concepts are nice if your dog follows you everywhere.
-Look for ways to break the house up if you’re considering a puppy, you’ll want to be able to contain them to small parts of the house while potty training.
- Having a mudroom or laundry room at the door becomes a luxury. Being able to grab towels for muddy paws, put leashes and contain the wet pup while you’re drying/wiping them down is essential to your peace.
3. Yard
- if there’s already a fence, awesome, check it for weak spots. If it doesn’t, check into your ability to add one. Many HOA’s are weird and specific about those things.
-grass vs mud! Some yards look so cute at certain times of the year and turn into swamps during snow melts and showers.
-consider where the shade will be during the warmest parts of the day. Dogs overheat FAST.
4. Future dog.
-Consider this: Will this work for a puppy? A senior dog? Two dogs? A 70lbs dog who thinks personal space is oppressive?
What are some things you think are important when house shopping as a pet parent?
