If you’re looking to dial your fall vibes up a notch, mark your calendar 🗓️ for the annual Oktoberfest over at Mr. Dunderbak’s.
But first — a quick story (because history + beer = even better).
A Little Backstory
This place has roots deep in German heritage and is a Tampa tradition.
• What once was a franchise chain across the U.S. shrank down to just a few locations — and the Tampa spot became one of the flagships.
• Mr. Dunderbak’s opened its doors back in 1974 at the University Mall just down the road from USF.
• In 2009, Mr. Dunderbak’s moved to its citrent location on Bruce B. Downs in Tampa Palms.
• Today? It’s not just German food; it’s a full-blown biergarten, brewery, deli, and mecca of imported and house-crafted beers.
So when you step inside, you’re not just grabbing dinner — you’re tapping into decades of flavor and beer-culture history. Chicago? New York? They have spots. But this? It’s ours down here, Tampa style.
Why You Should Go This Year
• Legendary food: Think massive schnitzels, potato pancakes, giant Bavarian pretzels — dishes that bring comfort and character. Last night, I had the Schnitzel Italia and it was DELICIOUS 😋
• Beer galore: They boast hundreds of bottles, dozens of taps, and their own brewing efforts. If you’re a beer aficionado (or just enjoy a good pint), you’ll feel at home.
• Oktoberfest energy: Every October on Friday and Saturday evenings, they go all-in — live German music with Accordion Joe, themed food and drink, costume fun, and plenty of stein-raising.
• Community feel: As someone who cares about quality and relationships (that’s me), this place checks the box — warm, lively, sense of memory-making. Perfect spot to bring clients, family, or friends.
So here’s to good food, good drinks, and making memories. Let’s toast: Prost!
