If you don’t do regular maintenance on your dryer vent it will become so corroded that the vent access door will not open properly and lint will start to build up at the first turn (which cannot be seen from either end) then it will become blocked so much either it will cause a fire inside the wall (or your dryer) it can also weaken the dryers ability to function or burn out completely. The biggest issue will be that no dryer vent cleaning company will do a proper cleaning and sanitization of a corroded or clogged (ignored) vent system as it can take more than two hours to do the job. I have been to brand new homes where a cleaner that had just been called out and yet they didn’t even clean the dirty wet clumps of lint clogging the vent doors ability to open so it was not only smelly but going to clog again in record time. So what I want to know is are they dojng this so the vent will clog and they have to come back out? Are they trying to increase the dryer sales market by destroying the units? Are they hoping to burn down a home like little arsenists or are they In such a rush they can’t soend more than 20 minutes working or do they really not know how to do the job they advertise they can do? Or is it all about wording thier invoices so that they cannot be held responsible for any damages as a result of thief negligence so as long as they can blow air (for now) through the line it can be considered clear enough? The continued ignorance and confusion so called contractors are perpetrating is keeping me very busy lol.

I just saved a wooden water wheel (built by someone else) that is still in good shape but needed some restoration. Just because you haven’t done any up keep, cleaning or maintenance and it looks decrepid or falling apart doesn’t mean it can’t be restored to good or even new condition. When you have a full working knowledge of all formats and mediums (especially in molecular science) then you can do what seams like a miracle or magic. This water wheel is going to regain its strength integrity and appearance in just a few hours with just a couple hours labor. Think what I could do if I spent several days on it lol.

So face book hasn’t heard from me in a while lol. So here is a post of some doors I installed after fixing the framed opening as the new custom doors were wider since the standard size in the industry has changed so that if you want a new door you will need to either ruin the door by changing the jamb and doors width to the old standard sizing or take the house apart to change the older framing to the new width standard. But wait a minute!!! The same applies to newly built homes as well???!!! Because thier is no new standard width in construction for door openings?!!! It has not changed in over 50 years??!!! But the door manufacturers decided to change their sizes yet the building codes have not. Wait what?!! So you can’t buy a new custom door in a standard size? Just another way the industry is making more work for everyone. Kind of like how doors were designed with the smallest (thinnest) part of the jamb to hold the dead bolt so it can be easily broken into. Or was that so the police can easily knock your door in?? Anyway, I love it when customers love thier home enough to buy custom solid core doors and have them professionally installed. No one will be breaking into this house very easily that’s for sure.

I’m going to post this again for the first time. Thier is no such thing as a handyman as a trade. Thier is no license for handyman as it is not teachable in a class and thier is no sufficient test you can take for it. And if thier was it would take tens of years to study and more time in the field to master. A true handyman will have worked in all construction trades from apprenticeship to (at minimum) journeyman, then continuing thier study in each field to master craftsman only after engaging in every aspect quirk or customized situation that can occur in that field. Since thier are 22 different fields just in home construction and each take 2-5 years to master you would have to be 44 or over 110 years of age to become one. Anyone who has this amount of skill and knowledge would rather be a custom home builder- engineer or developer. I am the only true handyman in California maybe the world whom does not do it for the money and does not want to run a big company employing others. And if I did I could not properly use the term handyman as it refers to a sole individual lol. Due to my skill level and demeanor I have built up the handyman reputation in this area for over 17 years and because thier is no license requirements for handyman, and no false advertising repercussions thanks to the internet, Facebook and google, everyone is a handyman. And these fakers and false profits have so confused the public in that only a licensed handyman or handyman service should do any work period but that is a unicorn and simply does not exist. A handyman is needed when the job is too small to hire a licensed tradesmen or contractor in that field but still want the experience or expertise a journeyman or master craftsman would have. Or when the project requires several trades or feilds of construction experience but the amount of work in each is too small to warrant a huge company or crew but again the talent required and experience with the tools is greater than the average do it yourselfer. In reality most jobs today a real handyman is overqualified to perform but due to so many tenets living in homes and fewer homes being built but being flipped or used as income property instead. The demand for handyman services has skyrocketed. And due to the reputation I’ve been achieving in Temecula over the past 17 years the term handyman had become glorified and desired so a ton of posers have come out of the rubble. The reality is thier is no one that has my level of skill and expertise and due to all the posers and fakers making so many mistakes the term handyman has now started to become diragatory and that’s just not fair. I worked hard for many years to gain the skills I possess and became a handyman because I wanted to help people and knew I would always be in demand, but now I have to work too hard for several hours just convincing customers I can hang a green door ( just ask your handyman if Hd knows what that is lol) I would start advertising as a master craftsman since I am one in almost every field but no one would have any clue what that really meant and the “contractors or so-called handymen” would campaign that you need to get a licensed for that as well. And when the cslb refuses to ablige they will start a misinformation campaign to confuse everyone in that as well like falsely advertising that they are master craftsman and can do anything. Which is why so many “handyman services” ( so called ) are still advertising today. Ok rant over!

Ok, so a growing trend I see in the home remodeling industry is to use inferior products for things that have no business being used in that area but since they are tenets or house flipping and do not plan on being around it’s no big whoop right? Like using 1x6 cedar toung and groove boards (which are actually 1/2” x 5&1/2” used for roof edges over open eaves) as a flooring (like laminate) that they stain and clear coat and are calling it a real wood floor. Well that is going to have so many problems in a year or two and depending on your installation technique will be murder to remove when it gets moldy and or rotten. Just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should.

So if you have honeycomb paper folding blinds and clean your windows or have a cleaning company come out. Make sure they are completely folded all the way up without any bad creases or they will loose thier shape and billow out. You can also have them steamed and pressed to get the creases back. I have repaired broken string lines on many styles which apparently is a lost art as no one else offers this service.

So I recently worked on a brand newly built home off pourroy near the metropolitan water district. What are the inspectors doing? This home is less than 6 months old and the stucco already has cracks that were painted over to hide them. Really?!!? The home buyer is relying on you the builder- inspector or service professional to know the proper process for tradesmen and you are failing miserably. Thanks for the work though, you guys are feeding the industry- way to go!!!
That’s sarcasm in case someone that doesn’t know me gets the wrong impression.

Ok. So you got your new home without flooring installed and the guys you hired on your own didn’t remove the baseboards and tiled right up to them. So now if you ever want to change the baseboards you will have to replace the entire floor or (if your lucky) at least install grout to fill the gap where the baseboard used to be. Oh and by the way, when your grout loses the seal; every time you mop or the floor gets wet the water will sit on the baseboard that is lower than the tiles until it swells up or rots. That’s a lot of fun to repair not to mention if you want to install a doggie door, you can’t put it low to the floor without cutting the baseboard and that also means it can’t be properly sealed from water getting into the framing. Nice work saving that $40.000.00 just to have to replace it all again in the future.

Just came from a home belonging to an older couple I’d say 70s or so and it is so sad to see how they have been abused by the service industry. Tiles lain up to the baseboards then cut 1/2” around the door jambs “which are buried in grout and 3/4” quarter round installed to hide cracked tiles and grout. Dryer vent that was broken inside the wall (probably from trying to clean it out) so they just cut a new hole in the drywall below it and shoved the dryer flex hose into the wall cavity (really!!! you could have killed someone) A broken toilet handle that was left because the toilet lid kept it from falling up which meant no one noticed it because no water was running out. A ton of paint overspray on window glass -cabinet hinges and wall edges (Grey on top of white) several (brand new newly installed mind you) tub water spouts that were loose and not properly installed so water runs back down the internal pipe and into the wall, a leaking water shut off valve in the laundry room that now without a hose attached dropped down the drywall soaking it. I mean come on, if you don’t know a trade stop trying to figure it out on unsuspecting customers and pay a trade school or start as an apprenticeship for less than minimum wage by someone who knows how to teach and is willing to do so. Handyman used to mean a person with so much experience in all trades that they are handy to have around because they can actually do all these things. I guess I should start calling myself a master tradesman since I seem to be the only one whom can actually do any trade professionally!!
