Hurricane season is just a month away, and if you're a homeowner in The Woodlands area, now is the time to get ahead of it.
As real estate professionals, we see firsthand how preparation protects not just families, but home values. A little effort now can save a lot of heartache later.
Here's a simple checklist to get you started:
✅ Review your homeowner's insurance policy — Know what's covered and what isn't. Flood damage is typically not included in a standard policy and may require separate coverage.
✅ Document your belongings — Walk through your home and video everything of value. Store it in the cloud or somewhere off-site so it's accessible if you need to file a claim.
✅ Inspect your roof, gutters, and drainage — Small issues become expensive problems fast when heavy rain arrives. A quick check now beats an emergency repair later.
✅ Know your evacuation route — Have a plan and a go-bag ready, especially if you have children, elderly family members, or pets.
✅ Secure important documents — Insurance policies, property records, and identification should be stored digitally and in a waterproof container at home.
✅ Trim trees and secure outdoor items — Loose branches and outdoor furniture become hazards in high winds.
Hurricane season doesn't have to be stressful with the right preparation. If you have questions about how storm readiness affects your home's value or insurance requirements, we're always happy to talk.
