Television (TV) in Tucson. Tracing back to the 1950’s….
Broadcast television is no longer the leading medium for entertainment and information. But if you prefer TV viewing... here are the local Tucson broadcasting channels still in business:
KGUN – launched January, 1953.
G-u-n call letters associated with one of the early station owners; an avid gun collector.
KOLD – on-air launch was February, 1953
K-o-l-d call letters plays off the contrasting opposite (cold vs. hot Arizona deserts).
KVOA – went on-air September, 1953.
V-o-a call letters originally referenced to Voice Of Arizona.
KUAT- launched on March, 1959.
U-a-t call letters signified University of Arizona – Tucson.
KUVE – evolved and emerged in the 1980’s.
U-v-e call letters may connect to Univision, the station's licensee.
KHRR – evolved and emerged in the 80’s and early 90’s.
The call letters have no special history. The station is branded as Telemundo.
KWBA – launched 12/31/1998.
W-b-a originally was referenced “Warner Brothers Affiliate”, but is now an independent station.
