One of the greatest responsibilities we have as leaders is seeing something in others before they ever see it in themselves.

In our teams, our families, and our friendships, leadership is not about pointing out flaws. It is about recognizing gifts, calling them out, and giving them room to grow.

And sometimes… that means patience.

Our son Jackson reminded me of that.

A few years ago, he tried wrestling and wanted nothing to do with it. He walked away early, and we let him. Even though we thought there might be something there, we did not force it.

Fast forward a few years.

He chose on his own to step back onto the mat during football offseason. This time, something clicked.

Three months later, he finished as a state runner up and was named Most Outstanding Novice Wrestler for his school.

Same kid. Different season.

That was a reminder I needed.

Leadership is not about forcing outcomes just because we see potential. It is about timing, patience, and belief.

It is about walking alongside people, encouraging them, and being ready when they are ready.

When we build people up instead of tearing them down, confidence grows and potential turns into results.

That applies in business, at home, and everywhere in between.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is trust the process and keep pouring into people until their moment comes.
