🚨 You might think all eyes are on Kīlauea right now but be aware! Thieves are looking for the right moment to steal your stuff. 👀

👛 If you are coming to the park, leave your valuables behind (or at least hidden in your car). Last night (12/27/24), thieves smashed a car window at Kīlauea Overlook and stole anything they could get their hands on. Don’t let that happen to you. Safeguard your stuff.

People who witness an eruption at Kīlauea are experiencing more than just lava, gases, and ash. They are connecting with a place that holds deep significance for generations of Native Hawaiians. This new wayside offers insight into how an eruption is viewed from a Native Hawaiian perspective, with understandings derived and interpreted from early Hawaiian chants.

I loko o ke kālaipele, ʻo ka ʻike kuʻuna hoʻi, lehulehu a manomano nā kino akua e ʻike ʻia ai, a pēlā pū no nā mea e ʻike maka ʻole ʻia ai - ʻo Lonomakua ʻoe, ʻo Kānekokalalūhonua ʻoe, ʻo Pelehonuamea ʻoe, a nui wale nā akua hou aku. E maliu mai ʻoe e kūʻike i ke kapu o nā akua, a e noho pū me lākou.
