As a landscape architect and residential designer, I can totally relate to the combination of the marrying together of a life-long sport, family and the creation of a sense of place. Those of us lucky enough to be raised near a mountain, having grown up skiing and competing on snow truly have a passion for the wintertime outdoors! Having just rerturned from the season's last competition at the 80th Anniversary of Stowe's Sugar Slalom - we don't want to hang our gear up yet but know the importance of fueling the next season by being productive at work during the warmer months. While having the opportunity to see many different mountain communities this winter, I purposed to observe the qualities of architecture, ambiance, convenience, non-ski activities and the range of ages of the people enjoying these places. While our practice does not solely work in the resort realm or destination locations, we do understand that great projects result from design collaborations between professionals who have a passion for and are active in seasonal sports and leisure activities. This story warmed my heart on several levels, thank you for citing the connection between family, work, leisure and lifestyle!
Lifelong skiers from Massachusetts wanted to share the sport with their children. It took an architect’s skill to make it happen.
