For many buyers, underwriting sounds like the intimidating part of the mortgage process—but it’s really a detailed review designed to make sure the pieces of your loan fit together.
During this stage, the underwriter may take a closer look at your income and employment, assets, bank statements, credit, debts, property details, appraisal, and supporting documentation.
And here’s something important to remember: being asked for another document or explanation doesn’t automatically mean there’s a problem. Sometimes the underwriter simply needs additional information to complete the review.
My advice? Stay responsive, keep your finances consistent, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. The goal is to keep your file moving forward as smoothly as possible.
After more than 20 years in the mortgage industry, I know how much easier this process can feel when you understand what’s happening behind the scenes. I’m here to guide you through each step—from the early questions all the way to the closing table.
