Generous Heart for Valentine's Day - We Raised $61,600 in 7 Days
While our hearts are full this Valentine's Day, we can’t help but feel a little sad at the events occurring in China related to the Wuhan coronavirus. From across the globe, we are dedicated to making a difference and spreading our support, encouragement and warmth.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, GL Capital (GLC) and the World Youth Value Society (WYVS) has led the “Love for Wuhan” initiative, raising 430,000 yuan (approximately $61,600 USD) since the first reported incidents. We contacted local public welfare organizations in the United States to purchase medical protection materials. At the same time, we contacted local charity organizations in Wuhan, China to organize the distribution of public welfare materials. We purchased and transported 476 kg of medical supplies to eleven hospitals, two charity organizations, the Wuhan Virus Research Institute and two other institutes for Disease control in Wuhan, China.
It’s simple to take care of others when they need it though not always easy. It takes time, money and energy. GLC aims to continue serving the unwell and underprivileged through our charitable contributions! There is a Chinese poem that goes, “...in deep mountains there is a late spring, everywhere the cherry blossoms pressure branches. Peach and plum blossoms follow the rain, and there will be sunny days.” We look ahead to Sunny days for Wuhan and those affected by the virus.
According to our calculation, our "Love for Wuhan" initiative has received warm responses from overseas compatriots and local warm-hearted friends of the United States and various public welfare organizations. By January 30, 2020, in only 7 days, we raised a total of RMB 181929.78, US $34588.58, which resulted in the purchase of 47760 respokare anti-virus masks, 10000 3M N95 8210 respirator masks, and another 476kg of aid materials.
The cherry blossoms in Wuhan will bloom in early March and we expect those blossoms will bring in more sunny days.
We hope that next year's Valentine's day will be warmer and sweeter for our friends in China. Here at home, we wish everyone a wonderful Valentines Day. Share the day with a special person, or friend, and always celebrate yourself.
