I was born in DC. I have spent my entire life either passing by or occasionally visiting the Washington Monument. When I saw this picture today, I was struck by the realization that in the same places that we pass by and through everyday, someone, at some point in history could have stood in that very spot, fighting to pave the way for us to be exactly where we are today. Days like this are marked on our calendar so we can stop, reflect, and move with gratitude. Today, take a moment to think of those who have paved a path for you and make a commitment to also pave a path for the future generations that will drive the same roads, take the same short cuts and visit the places you visit. We are not here by happenstance. Someone paved your way. Happy MLK Day!
