🌴 Thinking About Heading South? Here’s What You Should Know About Life in the Tampa Bay Area 🌞 From your Tampa Bay Realtor — Mollyana
So, a lot of my NY & NJ friends are heading south… and I don’t blame you one bit! Before you trade in your snow shovels for flip-flops, here’s what life is really like here in Tampa Bay 👇
☀️ 1. The Weather It’s hot. Like melt-your-makeup, stick-to-your-car-seat hot. Fall lasts until about 11:30am, then it’s summer again. Winter is basically northern Fall, and Spring only shows up for an hour before summer takes over. Vicious cycle… but we love it.
🦎 2. Lizards They’re everywhere — inside, outside, sunbathing on your patio. You’ll stop flinching after a while.
🥪 3. Pub Subs Publix sandwiches are a Florida lifestyle. The 6th major food group. Don’t argue, just try one.
🐢 4. Turtle Towels Keep one in your car. You will pull over to help a turtle cross the road one day — it’s the law of Florida nature.
🚦 5. Traffic (or Lack Thereof) Compared to up north, traffic here is nothing. The real problem? Long lights. You could celebrate a birthday or two at some of them.
🍕 6. The Food Scene People say Florida doesn’t have good food… those people just haven’t asked me yet. We’ve got incredible hidden gems — from fresh seafood on the water to pizza that would make any New Yorker proud. Just ask me where to go.
💬 7. Southern Hospitality Is Real People here will ask how you’re doing — and expect an answer. You might hear about their car trouble, their cousin’s snake bite, or their new boat before you know it. Welcome to Florida, where “small talk” is a full conversation.
🐊 8. Gators No, they’re not roaming the streets. In four years, I’ve seen two — both near water. You’ll see way more lizards than gators, I promise.
🚗 9. Blinkers Are Optional You’ll understand soon enough.
🪳 10. “Water Bugs” We don’t have roaches here… at least that’s what we tell ourselves. They’re “water bugs.” Don’t ask.
🏡 11. Neighborhoods Tampa Bay is a fun mix — a waterfront mansion next to a fishing shack next to a deli that sells live bait. It’s part of the charm, and there’s truly something for everyone.
⛪ 12. Churches We’ve got a lot of them. Big ones, small ones, even ones in shopping centers. God is everywhere here — but especially in Tampa Bay.
💸 13. No State Income Tax That’s right. You can keep more of your paycheck — and spend it on sunshine, brunch, and boat days.
🌅 14. The Lifestyle Life here is slower, more affordable, and full of beauty. The beaches, the sunsets, the palm trees — it’s everything New York isn’t, and everything you didn’t know you needed.
