Warm days and cold night will trigger queen yellow jackets to leave their nest and try to find a warm, safe place to winter over. This results in her leaving her workers to starve to death. This is why this time of year you will see an increased number of yellow jackets flying around, especially at your outdoor parties with food and drink around.
Please be careful especially with can drinks where you cannot see if a yellow jacket has entered.
Always remember if you cannot see a nest do not spray them with the over counter sprays or dust as this may aggravate them and result them entering the structure. Most importantly DO NOT seal them in with expandable foam or any sealers.
Have a safe & enjoyable Labor Day weekend!
