Meet Sabrina πŸ’•

When I first saw Sabrina's photo, I assumed she was an older mama cat. Her mastitis was so severe that I figured she must have been through years of breeding.

But when I picked her up from the vet and met her in person, it was even more heartbreaking.

Sabrina is just a baby herself β€” estimated to be only 7 months old.

No one knows exactly what happened. No kittens were ever found, and we don't know if she gave birth and lost them or if something else occurred. We only know that she appeared in terrible condition: so thin and suffering from one of the worst cases of mastitis we've ever seen. Her mammary glands were so swollen they were bleeding πŸ’”

And yet, despite everything she's been through, Sabrina is one of the sweetest cats I've ever met.

All she wants is to curl up in a lap, soak up chin scratches, and be loved. Even with a sore tummy and an annoying cone on her head, she's already discovering how to play and enjoy being a kitten for the first time.

A huge thank you to Leyanis with Clewiston Friends of Animals for responding when a concerned community member reached out about her, and to Maria for quickly transporting her to the vet. Thank you also to Okeechobee Veterinary Hospital for hospitalizing her for a week and helping her fight this severe infection.

I'm always amazed by how much these animals endure while still remaining so gentle, trusting, and loving.

One of the reasons Sabrina immediately stood out to us was her name. My Aunt Sabrina recently lost her beloved cat, so learning this little girl's name felt like a sign. Rescue is funny that way. There are so many cats who need help, and it's hard to explain why certain ones pull at your heart a little harder than others. If you're a rescuer, you understand.

The moment Leyanis reached out about Sabrina, the answer was easy.

Yes. We'll take her.

We can't wait to share more updates as she heals, finishes her medications, and finally gets the chance to enjoy what every kitten deserves: safety, comfort, love, and the opportunity to just be a kitten πŸ₯Ή

🚨 Please share for a rescue or adopter for ACC urgent list Petal πŸ₯Ί

Petal is still on the urgent list at animal control, and honestly, I don't understand why she hasn’t received a rescue commitment. Yes, she needs a dental. But beyond that? She is an absolutely wonderful little dog.

Petal is a precious little 13-pound senior girl who found herself on the urgent list at animal control through no fault of her own. This sweet girl has done everything right. She walks perfectly on a leash, is completely housebroken, and has the gentle, loving personality of a dog who once belonged to someone. She clearly knew what it felt like to be loved.

Now she's waiting for someone to choose her again.

Petal is currently safe in foster with us, for now I have a separate room where I can continue helping her quarantine, but she desperately deserves more than a temporary place to land.

She is the kind of dog who just wants to be close to her people. She greets everyone with the sweetest little nub wags, covers you in kisses, and looks at you like you're the best thing she's ever seen.

She gets so excited every time she sees our tiny hospice foster Benny. Unfortunately, Benny is a little intimidated by her enthusiasm! But we think Petal would thrive in a rescue or home where she could have canine friends to play with, or simply enjoy more attention.

After everything she's been through, we don't want Petal's story to end at a shelter. We want her next chapter to be the one she deserves.

Please help us find a rescue, adopter, or permanent foster placement for this precious girl. Even if you can't take her, a share could be the one that changes her life.

Let's find Petal her happy ending πŸ₯ΉπŸ’•

Thank you Thomas and the Monster Squad! We really appreciate everyone who has been spoiling our fosters. Making sure they’re mentally healthy and happy is just as important, we appreciate having a community who recognizes that and helps our babies truly thrive πŸ₯°
