I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of Holiday Cleaners this morning. Sylvia & her Mom, Maria have owned it for several years, but their Dry Cleaning story doesn’t begin there. In the early 60’s, Sylvia began working at Sloan’s Dry Cleaners and learned the business from Mr. Sloan. Later, she went to Dry Cleaning school. Back then, the state certified Dry Cleaners ( who knew?). She has worked in the Dry Cleaning industry for almost 65 years! Her daughter, Sylvia is just as passionate, having really grown up in the industry and working in it for most of her life. I was so happy to meet such friendly & kind people, who are so passionate about what they do! I’m excited to see how my clothes come out on Saturday! One of the most meaningful traditions for Murphy Ranch graduates is returning to their elementary school before graduation for a group photo.

This year’s visit carried special significance as the Class of 2026 took a moment to honor their classmate, Jack Salas, who passed away during their elementary school years. Students included a banner in his memory, making sure Jack was part of this milestone and remembered by the friends who grew up alongside him.

Congratulations to these seniors as they celebrate graduation and carry their Murphy Ranch memories with them into the future. ❤️🎓

The City of Whittier is aware of the Hazardous Materials incident currently occurring in the City of Garden Grove.

The Orange County Fire Authority remains on scene near Western Avenue and Chapman Avenue, where evacuation orders have been issued in the surrounding area.

At this time, there is no known impact on the Whittier community.

The incident is being closely monitored by regional emergency response and air quality agencies, and there are currently no public safety advisories affecting Whittier.

The City will continue to monitor the situation and share additional information if conditions change.

For residents traveling in or near the affected area, please follow guidance from local authorities and avoid evacuation zones.
