No, Rachel Green, you weren't...BUT the rest of your layered English trifle was great!

There's nothing more fun than dusting off your Christmas totes and pulling out your favorite holiday decorations each year.

My family looks forward to this every year (hot chocolate & Home Alone 2 are non-negotiables!) But, before you decorate this season, think about this:

How do you want January to feel? Do you want to start the new year overwhelmed or feeling behind? Or do you want to start the new year fresh and energized?

I'm guessing you and I both want the latter. Here are a list of ways to help you make your home beautiful this season without the overwhelm of the new year.

1. Declutter your space. Before you add new Christmas decor, remove anything you don't need. This could be fall decor, books or trinkets you've been meaning to donate, artwork you've never liked. Your Christmas decor will make a bigger impact if the backdrop is uncluttered.

2. Edit your decor. Start with the fall decor you're putting away. Were there pieces you never got out this season? Maybe now would be a good time to donate! Then, as you're getting out your Christmas decorations, ask yourself if you really love each piece...and donate whatever you decide not to display this season.

3. The whole point of decorating for the holidays is to make your house feel homey and festive. Why create more work for yourself come January by putting out more decor than you need? If a beautiful tree, lighted garland, and your favorite singing Santa on your mantle does the trick, challenge yourself to stop and enjoy the season in a more simplified, intentional space.

BONUS TIP: Another great way to decorate your home is to focus less on CHRISTMAS decor and more on WINTER decor. Branches, pinecones, greenery, & cranberries all feel warm and cozy but could easily be displayed well into February. ❄️

Here to remind you that your home doesn't have to be Instagramable to be perfect!

Next time you're sitting around the dinner table with the fam, journaling with your morning coffee, or having date night with your spouse, answer these questions:

1 - Reflect on when you first saw your home. What made you think "This is it!"

2 - What did you do on moving day? Who was there? How did you make it special? (Even if special consisted of ordering takeout chicken fried rice that you proceeded to eat from the container while sitting on the floor, listening to music on Spotify.

3 - What is your favorite memory in your home?

4 - Describe your ideal day at home

5 - Which room in your home is your favorite and why?

Just a little reminder for anyone who feels like the "home" grass is greener on Instagram!

Staging to Sell: The top 3 things to pack away before you're selling

1. Gallery Walls of family photos – of course we love our families and we’re so proud of our kiddos, grand kiddos, you name it, and want the world to see how wonderful they are. But when it comes time to sell, we don’t want the world to see them. We want the buyers walking through your home to envision their own kids, grandkids, romantic date nights with their husband, birthday parties and Christmas dinners – not yours! So pack those things up!

2. Anything smaller than a baseball – accessorizing and shelf styling is great but it’s important not to have tons of knick knacks cluttering your space! The simple rule of thumb is to remove anything smaller than a baseball! (shelf pictured is APPROVED)

3. Small kitchen appliances – toasters, blenders, espresso machines, electric wine openers, you name it. The goal is to keep the counters cleaned off (think model home) and only have out a simple candle or vase of fresh flowers. Pack the rest away even if it’s in an easy to reach cabinet nearby!

Need a hand with staging to sell? We're here to help! Whether it's one room or your whole house, we have SO many strategies to help you sell for more!

Stop here for staging (or decor) inspo and essentials for your bathroom 🛁

Staging Essentials:

-Decorative mirror (not the standard issue mirror that is borderless). Add a unique mirror for a ton of added style

-Luxury linens - Adding a nice hand towel adds a lot which you can see in the first photo

-Luxury Hand soap - Throw out (or hide) the disposable Dawn dish soap dispensers. Upgrade to a glass bottle hand soap and lotion for a nice accent

-Not so basic lighting - again, let's swap out those standard issue bathroom bulbs for an updated light fixture. It makes a big difference

-Add greenery - Bringing some life into the bathroom will make it feel spa like and cozy

-Candle for ambiance - because every bathroom needs a candle that smells like a spa (find something with eucalyptus to achieve this!)

-Wallpaper, wainscoting, tile - any of these additions will elevate the look of your bathroom (although I only recommend wallpaper in a smaller bath or powder room)
