The Grounds Introducing The Grounds: A place where everyone finds common ground.

Most people in Winston-Salem know Silas Creek as a road.

But just beneath it, there’s a creek that’s been here all along.

The master planning team for The Grounds saw its potential despite decades of neglect, and decided early and enthusiastically on shaping the project around it rather than treating it as an afterthought.

That shift has been carried forward through thoughtful planning and engineering by and , craftsmanship and care in the
field from , support and partnership from the and , and the shared vision of co-developers and .

During Forsyth Creek Week, we’re especially grateful for the chance to restore, reveal, and reconnect this part of Silas Creek 💧

From Winston-Salem to Atlanta, Addy Parker’s love for the Deacs runs deep. 🖤💛

As a Wake Forest grad, Alumni Council member, and longtime WFU Atlanta Board of Directors leader — she’s spent years building community. And as the wife of Adam Parker, who works for Carter and serves as one of The Grounds’ co-developers, this vision is deeply personal.

Gamedays. Gatherings. New traditions. We’re so excited to see so many Wake Forest alumni leaning into this project with such enthusiasm and support — whether they’ve planted roots in Winston-Salem or return each fall to cheer on the Demon Deacons.

Before The Grounds… there were lemonade stands.

Before $200M budgets… there were allowance negotiations.

Before organizing construction teams… there were kickball captains.

Turns out, leadership has always come naturally to this team.

A safer, more connected future is taking shape at University Parkway.

A new phase of connectivity improvements is happening at The Grounds — with the reimagining of the University Parkway and North Cherry Street intersection.

In partnership with , this redesign transforms a complex, fast-moving roadway into a safer, more intuitive, pedestrian-first gateway connecting , surrounding neighborhoods, and the district. The updated intersection eliminates the confusing northbound fork and introduces a single, clearly defined signalized crossing — including a dedicated pedestrian phase that temporarily stops traffic in all directions.

Expanded green space and new multi-use pathways will further strengthen the walkable network across the area.

Construction begins in early March and will conclude this summer, with the intersection remaining open throughout the work.

These updates are part of nearly $50 million in infrastructure investments supporting a long-term vision: stronger connections, safer streets, and a more welcoming, year-round gathering place ahead of Phase I delivery in Fall 2027.

It’s been just over three years since Mary Caroline Funk, Wake Forest alumna and Wake Forest Athletics Special Coordinator, first heard the vision for The Grounds. Today, as those blueprints turn into reality, she reflects on her time at Wake Forest and the lasting impact this project will have on students, alumni, fans, employees, neighbors, and visitors alike.

Connectivity at The Grounds is about more than a new pathway. It’s about strengthening the ties that bind a community together. At the heart of this project lives a shared spirit of belonging, where campus and community meet, memories are made, and traditions continue to grow.

⚾️ It’s Opening Day for Wake Forest Baseball!

With ongoing construction and roadway improvements related to The Grounds — including updates along the new Deacon Boulevard — Wake Forest Athletics has realigned 2026 gameday parking to reflect these changes.

Being informed and prepared will help make entry and exit on game day smoother for everyone. With improved traffic flow and intentional access from surrounding roadways, these updates are part of the broader vision for a more connected, walkable district at The Grounds.

For detailed gameday parking maps and traffic routes, please review the directions provided by Wake Forest Athletics at the link in our bio.

Go Deacs! 🖤💛

For Coleman Team, this project is more than development—it’s a full-circle moment that brings to life the immense power and importance of community.

At The Grounds groundbreaking in December 2024, he spoke about how a few neighbors came together to send his grandfather to college at . That one act of generosity shaped three generations—and now, Coleman is part of building something that offers that same sense of belonging, purpose, and possibility to others.

“Quite literally, I am standing here by the acts of community.”

And today, that legacy is taking physical form—turning overlooked space into common ground.

What happens when college athletics, community, and thoughtful development align?

Last week at the JohnWallStreet College Sports New P&L conference, leaders developing shared why this project is being looked to nationwide as a model for what’s next.

A few insights from the conversation with JohnWallStreet’s Corey Leff and Jacie Brandes, who welcomed John Currie ( & ), Jeremy Hull (), Adam Parker (), and Coleman Team ():
• Stadium-adjacent districts must work 365 days a year, not just on game days
• Long-term success comes from designing for community first, not revenue alone
• Early infrastructure and placemaking investments unlock decades of value
• Offices, housing, retail, trails, and nature all matter in creating sustained energy
• Public–private partnerships make bold, resilient places possible

For everyone driving the project, The Grounds reflects more than a development strategy — it projects leadership, experience, and a shared conviction that campus and city are strongest when they grow together.
